Old time music hall comes to Davenport’s North Walsham

Some of the finest British Music Hall Artistes take to the stage for the Old Time Music Hall at Davenport’s Magic Kingdom on Saturday 13th September.

A rare treat for fans of traditional Music Hall and the BBC’s ‘The Good Old Days’ which ran for 30 years between 1953 and 1983.

The evening will be chaired by Robert Meadwell whose career began with Leatherhead’s Thorndike Theatre, with whom he also toured America in 1973. He has since gained a wealth of experience throughout the UK including appearances at the Strand Theatre, leading roles in seven Victorian Pantomimes, numerous TV appearances and is frequently heard on British and American radio

The evening features a very special guest appearance by Soprano Marilyn Hill Smith whose prestigious career started as a principal soprano for the English National Opera Company and has continued with The Royal Opera at Covent Garden, Welsh and Scottish National and the Canadian and Singapore Opera Companies. She has also graced the stage at the New Sadlers Wells and BBC Proms, earning the accolade “Britain’s Queen of Operetta”.

Legendary character comedian Peter John presents his rib-tickling routine packed full of favourite cockney sing-songs. Direct from London’s Brick Lane Music Hall, Peter has won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Music Hall Society.


Roy Davenport, fourth generation magician, and Member of the Inner Magic Circle also appears. Currently best known as director of Davenport’s Magic Kingdom, his many awards include World Junior Magic Champion and prizewinner in Manipulation at the World Magic Championships (FISM).

Roy trained at Mountview Theatre school and his extensive performance experience includes theatre all over the world from the Cirque Magique D’Alsace in Strasbourg to It’s Magic in Los Angeles, the Hansa Theater, Hamburg, and the Magic Castle, Hollywood. Roy is also often called upon as a technical advisor. He has worked on programmes such as ‘What the Victorians did for us’ and stage productions including ‘Madame Butterfly’ at the Royal Opera House, London.

Jason Lambert will be the pianist for the night with further entertainment from Judi Daykin and John Hare who have performed at the Maddermarket and Sewell Barn Theatres in Norwich.
