25 years of friendship, musical collaboration and ribbing, single out this spring’s big band concert at Cromer Pier – with Olly Day.

It was in 1991 that Jonathan Wyatt first approached Olly to see if he’d like to sing with his big band.  Jonathan didn’t know it, but it had always been Olly’s ambition to stand in front of this talented band – bringing to life the great American songbook he loved so much.  Like Mack the Knife and New York, New York by his hero Frank Sinatra.

A quarter of a century on, the old favourites from the likes of Dean Martin and Tony Bennett are sharing the limelight with the exciting sounds of Michael Buble whose songs are of course tailor-made for the big band sound.

On April the 23rd a mix of old and new comes to life at the end of the Cromer Pier in the Pavilion Theatre. If it is not the sound of the trumpets, saxophones and singing from Olly and the Moonglow Sisters drowning out the roar of the crashing waves, it’ll be the laughter.

Olly’s skill as a lead vocalist is matched only by his quick witted humour, often at the expense of the very long-suffering Jonathan.  Only such a long friendship would see Olly getting away with the affectionate and extremely funny ribbing the band leader gets during the evening (just watch the band members’ faces!).

Today there are few opportunities to enjoy such a memorable mix of spot-on jokes, astounding big band playing and commanding singing  – all in one concert.

It must work – the last few yeas have been a regular sell-out.

Olly says, “I just can’t wait to stand on the stage again with the powerhouse of the Jonathan Wyatt Big Band behind me, knowing that the evening ahead is going to soar with the sounds so many people love”.

“There is nothing quite like hearing this invigorating big band music performed live by people with a real passion for it. I feel really lucky, I love every minute of it”

Jonathan says, “The Pavilion Theatre is very special as it’s the only end of the pier theatre in Europe with year round entertainment  – it’s the perfect venue for Olly and I to mark 25 years together in what has become a very special collaboration that brings out the best from band.  I am looking forward to it – even the rib tickling!”

The show starts at 7.30pm on Saturday 23rd of April 2016. Tickets cost £18 or £17 concessions. Call the box office for tickets 01263 512495.
