A group of local parents are looking to the future of a North Walsham school after staging a buyout.

The four couples, who all have children at the school, joined together to buy St Nicholas House. And, although they are already making their mark, they are keen to point out that headmaster Martin Castle will still be very much in charge of the children’s education.

St Nicholas House, an independent prep school and nursery based on Yarmouth Road, was founded more than 60 years ago by a group of local parents who sought a better education for their children. The new owners are all local business people, similar to those who founded the school, and all have skills to build on the future.

Mr Castle said: “We are very proud of our school and what we have achieved and we feel we are going back to our roots with strong, passionate owners that trust in the standards of the school and have invested their money and expertise into its future.”

Spokesperson for the new owners Andrew Dewing said: “We have a strong belief in the ethos and values of the school. The education and pastoral care offered by St Nicks and the leadership from Martin Castle has been a driving force in our decision to invest. Mark Ellse, the outgoing owner, is supportive of the takeover of the school and we would like to thank him for his contribution in the last 12 months.”

He added: “The philosophy of the school is to encourage a sense of responsibility with pupils learning to play a worthwhile and meaningful role in the life of the community. The school’s traditional values coupled with small class sizes throughout allow for more individual attention which in turn engenders a sense of community.”

The new owners have reduced fees and created a bigger discount for siblings. An open day will be held on November 9 for anyone who would like to see round the school.

A new website in under way and, in the meantime, you can find out more via the school’s Facebook page St Nicholas Prep School.
