When you reach the grand age of 106, you deserve to throw a party, and Winnie Elvin marked her latest birthday in style.

Winnie, who lives at Badgers Wood care home in Drayton, celebrated with friends and family at a special party that really took her by surprise.

Staff at the home worked undercover to put together a wonderful celebration for Winnie, including all her favourite party foods, wine and a cake (pictured) homemade by the catering team.

Winnie, who has been a resident at Badgers Wood since 2016, said: “I can’t believe they’ve gone to all this trouble, just for me. Still I suppose it’s not every day you turn 106!”.

Social care lead Helene Smith, who co-ordinated the festivities, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure putting these celebrations together for Winnie. She really is a remarkable lady.”

And manager Anne Riches added: “I was first privileged to meet Winnie when assessing her with her family at Dereham Hospital. It is incredible to think back upon the numerous friends she has made since being part of our Badgers Wood family.

“I am both touched and honoured that we are able to be celebrating Winnie’s incredible achievement.

“We have another centenarian in our care setting, and several more lining up to join the Centenarians Club, too, so we hope there will be more parties to come!”
