Pedal power to help air ambulance

A trio of pedalling pals are gearing up for their biggest challenge yet – a 435-mile, four-day trek around East Anglia in aid of the air ambulance.

Malcolm Fisher, Anthony Marett and James Howells, who are all members of a club for “retired” Round Tablers in north Norfolk, will cycle to Ipswich, Luton and King’s Lynn, starting and finishing at the ambulance HQ at Norwich airport.

Two of them, Malcolm and Anthony, from Roughton, completed a 311-miler from London to Paris two years ago for the Holt Youth Project with teammate Darren Thomas. He has a clash of events for this year’s epic ride starting on Aug ust 21, so James from East Tuddenham has stepped in.

Malcolm said: “When we got to Paris last time, we felt we still had something in our tanks, so we decided to do another long ride. We originally signed up for the Lap of Anglia last year, but two of us had to pull out through family illness – but we’re now in full training with 50 to 60-mile team rides every Friday, which always include a nice breakfast!”

The toughest part of the route is likely to be the hilly Downs around Luton, added Malcolm, who is a retired visitor experience manager from Sheringham Park.

Anthony runs Marett’s Chariots coaches, and James is director at training and corporate development company Turning Factor. All three are members of Sheringham and Cromer 41 Club for former members of the Round Table.
