Rare North Walsham car under the hammer
A rare car built in North Walsham is expected to fetch £25,000 when it goes under the hammer this weekend at Bonhams.
The fully-restored Duncan Healey is one of only 39 built in the town just after the Second World War.
The car is being sold by Martin Bastow, who owns a home for people with learning difficulties at Walcott, near North Walsham. He was given the car by his father, Wally, when he moved abroad and decided to sell as he “wasn’t doing the car justice”.
“I think the classic car owner has to be a certain breed,” he said after tackling the car’s harsh gear-changing and steering.
The car was in a poor state when it first came to Wally, but has since been fully restored at a cost of £18,000.
We’ll be looking at the history of the Duncan Healey in an upcoming issue of Just North Walsham and hope to have details of the auction too.
