Season’s over but it’s still a busy summer for club
The North Norfolk Table Tennis League (NNTTL) season has finished, but Aylsham Table Tennis Club will still be in action this summer.
In line with previous years the club – currently based at Banningham and Colby Community Hall – plan to continue with their usual weekly practice nights over the summer.
Club member Jonathon Dempsey said: “This arrangement allows keener players to ‘keep their hand in’ over the quieter months and opens the door for potential new players to develop an interest in the sport, while inter-club ‘friendlies’ are organised with like-minded rivals Cromer, Mundesley and Sheringham.”
Aylsham finished fifth in the NTTL’s Division Two this season. Their last two league fixtures were firstly a home match against bottom-placed newcomers from Cromer, The Slice Girls, and secondly a visit to Trunch Village Hall to play the league winners Swordfish. Aylsham won 10-0 against the The Slice Girls but it was a different story against the trio at Trunch. Only Aylsham’s top player, Russell Postle, managed to capture a singles win, the team going down 9-1.
However, Aylsham are looking positively towards next season, with the number of participants having expanded on club nights and the arrival of some experienced former league players. They may enter a second development team into the NNTTL.
The club currently provides up to five tables, so can potentially accommodate up to a maximum of 20 players at any one time.
New adult players with or without experience are always made welcome at the club, which meets each Tuesday night between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
