Four international stars from across the sporting spectrum will cut a ribbon to officially open Aylsham’s new £2m-plus community sports park Youngs Park on May 1.

Rugby brothers Ben and Tom Youngs; Norwich City captain and Scottish international Russell Martin; and former Norwich City manager and Northern Ireland player and manager Nigel Worthington will be the VIPs on the day.

All four have various established links with Aylsham, Norfolk and local sport.

For the Youngs brothers it is a particularly personal event as the land on which the sporting development has been created was once their family farm – hence the name Youngs Park.

Tom Youngs: “Ben and I are delighted to be involved in the official opening of the amazing sporting facility which carries the family name.

“We’re looking forward to seeing hundreds of people on the day enjoying themselves and we know this site will make a positive difference to thousands of people of all ages in the coming years.”

The park features 10 football pitches, floodlights, a 120 space car park and a 250m2 function room and bar which is sponsored by Just Aylsham.

Games have been played on the pitches since November, but the opening will be an opportunity for the community to come together for a celebration featuring the ribbon cutting, live music, a specially arranged football match and fireworks.

The bar will be open from 4pm, the VIPs will do their work at 5pm, Past versus Present football matches will kick off at 5.30pm, local band Lithium will play from 7.30pm and the blue touch paper will be lit for a grand finale firework display at 9pm.

Entry is free and all are welcome.
