It’s a must-visit event on the local calendar every year, and Taverham Fayre 2014 looks set to be one of the best yet. Taking place on Saturday, July 5, 10.30am-4.30pm, the fayre has a vintage theme and a brand new website – www.taverhamfayre.co.uk – to keep people up to date with what’s going on.

“The fayre is an event for the whole community and we aim to provide traditional fayre fun, activities and entertainment for the whole family,” said Deborah Blake, one of the organisers.

“The vintage theme was chosen this year because as well as being very popular at the moment, we felt it would appeal to a large cross section of people because it covers several eras.”

The fayre challenge this year takes us back to the 1970s, with three iconic memories from this era: the popular 1970’s space hopper toy, the musical game show “Name that Tune”, and the children’s game show “Runaround”.

Keeping with the theme, attractions will include vintage tractors, swing boats, Punch and Judy and a model train, as well as lots of local community group and commercial stalls.

Meanwhile, the main arena will host a dog show, playgroup parade, and performances by Finesse Baton Twirlers, SESMA, Jazzology, Treble Melody Singers, Direct Dance and Zumba Party Kids.

Taverham Band will also be playing on the field, and there will be lots going on inside Taverham Village Hall, with a craft and gift fayre and vintage tea rooms run by Nightingale First School.

Other attractions include Phoenix Rescue Birds of Prey, the Taverham FC football tournament, and two BBQs on the field provided by Taverham Scouts and Taverham Lions.

“We would really like to thank all our sponsors, year after year local businesses get behind the fayre and without their support we would struggle to put on such a brilliant community event,” said Deborah.

The organisers are looking for more help, either by joining the committee or volunteering for jobs in the lead up to the fayre or on the day. Anyone interested can email taverhamfayre@gmail.com.
