The Big Lunch in Aylsham market place to celebrate the Queen’s birthday will be bigger than the Jubilee celebration of 2012.

Around 1,200 people have put their names down for the June 12 street party, which is now fully booked. A reserve list is being held in case people drop out in the next few days.

The market place will be closed off except for access along Penfold Street.

Organisers have repeated their key plea to the town as a whole – please don’t park on the market place overnight on Saturday, June 11, because by the time you come back to your car, it will be in the closed off area.

People attending the lunch can bring their tables and chairs to the old post office yard on Saturday afternoon if they want to – where they will be stored securely and then set up the next morning by cadets and scouts, said Aylsham town clerk Sue Lake.

Alternatively you can bring them on the Sunday morning, but you won’t be able to drive on to the market place.

The event will start at noon, with live bands Looking for Mango and Agent Orange performing at 1.30pm and 3pm respectively, with Claire Lawrence singing between the two acts.

Aylsham Picture House will be showing a rolling royal film in the town hall and serving teas and coffees.

Local businesses are likely to be open, some of them serving food and drink.

There will be a treasure trail around the shops, available from the town hall.

And anyone wanting to enter the birthday cake competition being held in the town hall should have their entries in by 1pm on the Sunday.

The celebration is expected to end around 6pm.

Those who have successfully secured a place at the lunch will receive an email or letter from Aylsham Town Council by the end of the day on June 3.
