Charity crafter Lynne Burrell is a step nearer her target of raising £20,000 in 20 years for a child bereavement support group close to her heart.

A May Makes challenge, when she created a piece for every day of the month, has given a big push to her running total which is now just £250 short with half the year to go.

Retired teacher Lynne, from Aylsham, saw the need for bereavement support for families at first hand when tragedy struck in her own class.
She trained as a volunteer for Cruse Bereavement Care then later got involved with Norfolk-based Nelson’s Journey, whose support work helps local children who have lost a close family member.

For 20 years she has combined her support of the charity with her lifelong crafting skills, by raising funds selling items she and friends have made.
Lynne said: “The more I got involved with Nelson’s Journey the more I realised the work they do makes a big difference to the children they support, through talking and them realising other young people are going through the same experience.”

Lynne, from Holman Road, enjoyed the May Makes challenge, including her first ever lampshade, which she and her husband liked so much they bought it for a table lamp in their own lounge. Other items included a teddy puppet, and a lace cat picture for a friend who had just lost their pet. She also made a lace snake bookmark, bead angel, felt owl, macrame key ring, bracelets, dream catchers, rainbow wheat bag hand warmers, beaded dragonfly, tooth fairy pillow and a felt Star Wars Chewbacca character for May the fourth. Some took a few hours, others a couple of days.

Her final push will see Lynne at her monthly Buxton Church coffee morning stall on the fourth Saturday of each month, 10am-noon, and a coffee morning at Aylsham Parish Church in November.
