Hellesdon High student Tallulah Self needs your votes! The 14-year-old budding politician, who lives in Taverham, is standing for election to be a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for Broadland.

If successful she will be one of nine MYPs who have been democratically elected by their peers to represent the same areas as their MPs. The young people will serve as MYPs for two years and will get involved in politics on a local and national scale, working alongside local councillors, as well as their MP.

The Youth Parliament elections give young people a chance to get involved in the democratic process for the first time, giving them a voice in local and national decisions and helping them to champion the causes of their peers.

“Unlike many people think, the UK Youth Parliament isn’t entirely to do with politics,” explained Tallulah. “It’s run by teenagers, like me, and gives all 11-18 year olds in the country a voice.

“I know that I’d be a successful MYP because I have a strong commitment to representing young people’s views and to make them heard. I come from a normal background, meaning that I have a strong awareness of the real issues young people face in today’s harsh society, from my own personal experiences and those of the people around me.

“I want to prove that dedication and passion can shine through, even if, like myself, you’re not as loud as others.”

Tallulah faces two other candidates for the Broadland area – Annie Baldwin from Acle High School and Maddie McKenzie from Taverham High School. Young people will be able to vote for FREE by text between 10-16 March (to vote for Tallulah text “Elect Tallulah” to 80800).

The winners will be announced at an event attended by the candidates and their friends and family at county hall on Wednesday, March 19.
