Alexandra Burke stars as superstar Rachel Marron in the stage version of the classic film starring the late and legendary Whitney Houston.

I knew this role would need someone with huge stage presence to be able to captivate the audience and having seen Burke take the lead in Sister Act, I knew she would be a perfect match for this demanding role.

Following an all singing, all dancing belter of and intro, the story follows the single mum and singer who requires a new bodyguard to protect her and her cheeky son from a potentially dangerous stalker.

This shows takes the audience through many emotions, from good to bad and everything in between with each character taking a vital role in this.

The relationship between Rachel and her sister Nicki, played by Micha Richardson, was very real throughout. Their duet of ‘Run to you’ was beautiful with both women showing their talents with amazing vocals that completely complemented each other.

One of my favorite elements of the show were the slow-motion scenes. These were breathtaking thanks to the very clever lighting and smoke effects. Clever staging created a really tense atmosphere at times by closing in on a scene as if it was zooming in. It was very cleverly done, creating huge impact.

From a powerful opening number to a dramatic ending, the vocals throughout were flawless and powerful. Burke captivated the audience completely taking their undivided attention.

This show is not to be missed.

The Bodyguard runs until May 11th. Tickets can be purchased here:
