The Wedding Room on its way to The Atrium

Local drama group Stage Direct will be performing The Wedding Room by playwrite and former drama teacher Rob John at The Atrium this month.

The play, on May 23 and 24, tells the story of Julia’s wedding day and the fact it isn’t going as the fairytales would have us believe.

Stage Direct was originally formed in 1997 from the remnants of Growsmere Drama Group, with a mandate to produce plays with an edge. Dennis Potter’s controversial Brimstone and Treacle, Henry James’ Ghost story The Turn of The Screw and Neil Dunn’s outrageous Steaming were among the early offerings. In 2003, the group merged with Sheringham Players but a decision was taken in 2010 to once again branch out independently. After a brief spell at the Granary Theatre in Wells the company found a new home at The Atrium in North Walsham. Stage Direct now tries to mix popular theatre with its more challenging productions and also aims to involve the local community, setting up links with both North Walsham and Aylsham High schools.

The group is always on the lookout for new amateur actors/actresses of all ages as well as backstage helpers.

Tickets are £8, concessions £6, from the box office 01692 400080 or via www.theatrium.org.uk
