It’s been a busy few weeks for the Hampden’s Hedgehog team.

Founder Kitty Denny was interviewed by ITV News as part of a feature for Hedgehog Awareness Week, which highlighted her wildlife-saving conservation work.

She spoke about how small changes in our gardens and communities can make a big difference for hedgehogs.

Later, the team took part in their regular litter-pick in Costessey, collecting six bags of litter.

The litter picks take place on the last Sunday of every month and everyone is welcome to get involved.

Hampdens Hedgehogs was founded four years ago when Kitty, now 13, discovered hedgehogs in her garden.

Wanting to help them, she started raising awareness amongst her neighbours on the Hampdens estate and encouraged residents to become Hedgehog Champions.

Kitty’s mum Heather said: “Since then, our small community group has grown considerably.

“We launched our monthly litter pick two years ago, which continues to attract local residents who want to help keep our neighbourhood clean and wildlife-friendly.”

“Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help keep Costessey looking its best for both people and wildlife.”

As well as the litter picks, Hampden’s Hedgehogs host stalls at events and fetes to raise awareness and funds.

Kitty also gives talks to Rainbows, Beavers, gardening clubs and community groups across Norfolk about hedgehog conservation and how people can help wildlife in their own gardens.

She was recently given a community service award at the Town Council Annual Celebration event for keeping Costessey clean.
