Gather round everyone … welcome to Sunday Night At The Interweb!

It may be in his home rather than the Palladium, but Joseph Ballard – who leads the North Walsham People’s Choir – is performing every Sunday night in a variety show to help raise people’s spirits.

Featuring songs, comedy and guest acts, the show airs every Sunday on the New Stages Youtube channel and will be on tonight at 7pm. In the four weeks it has been online it has attracted viewers from around the world.

Joseph said: “I wanted to produce something to keep people entertained and to keep them feeling connected during this time. A sense of community and a sense of sharing something at the same time can really help all of our wellbeing at a time like this.

“Having had all my work cancelled for the foreseeable future, I thought the best way to see us through it would be to create this online show in tribute to the TV shows of the past. I remember watching the older TV programmes fondly that featured family-friendly jokes, song, dance and good old British variety.”

New Stages, his theatre company, also runs North Norfolk Youth Theatre and theatre show and classes in North Walsham and Norwich. He has also set up the Online People’s Choir – again via the New Stages website – for anyone who loves singing to come together in a virtual choir. This meets every Tuesday at 7pm on www.new-stages.co.uk/live. This was originally developed for members of North Walsham People’s Choir, but anyone is most welcome to take part.

Joseph continued: “Creativity, learning something new and a sense of achievement can play a major part in boosting our self-esteem and raising our spirits. I hope this contribution of live shows and classes online can reach out to people to stop and enjoy something light-hearted for a little while.”

Joseph writes and rehearses the show in the week leading up to the Sunday and films it all at home himself. New features are introduced each week and each broadcast has at least one song suggestion form viewers that is randomly picked out – on air – for Joseph to perform.

Viewers can tune in to watch the show at 7pm each Sunday at www.new-stages.co.uk/live or via New Stages Facebook page. Requests and any more information can be sent to joseph@new-stages.co.uk.
