VE Day display – and treats!

Anyone walking past the Aylsham Care Trust Centre during their daily exercise will be in no doubt what we are remembering today.

The centre may be closed to the public at the moment, but Amanda from its café team has created a celebration board including images and articles marking VE Day – there are even some wartime recipes to test your baking skills.

Some of the pieces she has found resonate with what is going on today, for example, there is an article asking “Is your journey really necessary?” showing a horse and cart.

And there is another VE Day treat lined up for lunch customers, too.

The Friday fish and chips are so popular the café team decided they just couldn’t leave their lovely lunch customers to go without, so will be delivering today. A special package will include extra treats, such as home-made gingerbread men, and lovely knitted hearts from Jilly Willis, of Hooked on Stitching.

Central service manager Jane Bishop, said: “We are doing our best to keep those at home – who have had to self isolate  for such a long time now –  cheerful with gifts and their Friday fish and chips!”

Gingerbread men and other goodies will be going out with the Friday lunches and the shop window has an eye-catching display of VE Day memoriabilia

And she said they were thankful for all the people who had helped them keep their services going.

“We have had donations, new volunteer offers, and many other acts of kindness. These are difficult times for us, and we want to continue our work taking care of those in the community who need it most – so thank you to everyone who has supported us.

“Please contact us if you would like to find out more about how we can help you, or you can help us!”
