Refurbished gyms due to reopen in next few days

Two North Norfolk leisure centres will have a fresh look before Christmas thanks to gym refurbishments worth more than £140,000.

The gyms at Victory in North Walsham and Splash in Sheringham are being refitted with new strength and cardiovascular equipment, an improved layout, and redecoration.

Both have been operating their other leisure services and facilities during the refit. The centres are owned by North Norfolk District Council and operated by Places For People Leisure. The refurbishments are being funded by the operator.

Victory gym will reopen on Thursday 17th December, following a £68,000 refurbishment and a seven day closure.  Additional sessions and classes have been run in the dance studio during the closure. Centre opening times have remained as normal.

Splash gym will reopen on Thursday 22nd December, following a £76,000 refurbishment and an eights day closure.  Additional sessions and classes have also been run in the dance studios and activity hall during the closure. Opening times have varied slightly and have been advertised on the centre’s website and on site.

Splash will still undergo its normal pool shutdown period from December 14th to 27th for annual maintenance.

Fakenham Sports and Fitness Centre, also owned by North Norfolk District Council and operated by Places For People Leisure, underwent a £108,000 refurbishment programme in November 2014, which was well received by users.

Cllr Becky Palmer, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture at North Norfolk District Council said: “I’m delighted that both gyms are being refurbished and improved.

“The two centres are very popular with a wide range of age groups and they contribute greatly to the health and wellbeing of the community.”

Stuart Jardine, contract manager at Places For People Leisure, said: “Our aim is to create active places and healthy people, and keeping our facilities updated is a priority. We hope this investment is a clear sign of our commitment in providing the best possible service, not just to local residents but also to seasonal visitors. We are so pleased that we will have both refurbishments ready to carry out those New Year’s resolutions in January.”
