Fancy getting your steps up, getting together with others and making life better for everyone living in Holt? Then sign up for the Holt 20,000 Steps Walk-A-Thon.

Planned for September 27, the event will raise funds for The Friends of Kelling Hospital and The Venue.

Entrants can register online, either as individuals or a team, and it doesn’t matter how far you walk – or whether you walk with family, old friends, new friends or four-legged friends.

The 20,000 steps concept reflects the increasing number of people who like to think about distance in terms of the steps and the value that walking can have as part of an active lifestyle.

On the basis that the average number of steps a walker takes is around 2,000 per mile, four challenge markers will be available so entrants can choose 3,000, 6,000, 10,000 or 20,000 steps.

The 3,000 and 6,000 routes are accessible for everyone, including people using wheelchairs or those with walking aids.

If you don’t fancy walking, you can also do your bit by signing up as a marshal, a first-aider or as a sponsor.

All entrants get a T-shirt and a pack, and the organisers will offset the CO2 from this event, including walker’s travel to and from the start area, by planting one tree for every 20 registrations.

The covid-19 restrictions mean the start times and date are not set in stone and if developments mean that the event has to be altered, organisers will keep a close eye on the situation and let everyone know.
