The Youngs Community Sports Trust and Aylsham Football Club is in with a chance of receiving a £5,000 grant to help halve its annual grass cutting bill – but they need your vote to help them.

A bid is in for for the money from the Aviva Community Fund.

With Youngs Park about to enter its second year of operation – it currently hosts 25 football teams including boys and girls from ages five to 19 years old, one ladies and three mens teams, karate, slimming world, aerobics and 10K running sessions – the focus is on managing costs more effectively and increasing community usage and income.

One way of doing that, said Mr Potter, was to reduce one of the largest regular costs – grass cutting on the 20 acre site.

“It takes more than eight hours and around £200 per week to cut the grass during the growing season – that’s £1000s every year.

“With a grant of £5,000, we can purchase a quality second hand ride on mower and a secure reconditioned container, which will also provide more desperately needed on-site storage.

“We believe we can reduce our grass cutting costs by at least 50pc per annum immediately.”

The money saved, added Mr Potter, would be re-invested and help to support the drive to further improve Youngs Park.

The projects entered into the Aviva Community Fund which receive the most votes will become finalists.

You can register up to 10 votes each so get your friends and family to go to: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-2816 the deadline is 18th November.

For funding above £1,000, finalist entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges for a decision.
