North Walsham Fire Station has been named as a base for a new specialist vehicle to help firefighters on emergency call-outs.

Four additional Toyota Hilux 4×4 tactical response vehicles (TRVs) are part of a multi-million pound investment by Norfolk County Council to modernise the fire and rescue fleet.

INVESTMENT: The four new TRVs, one of which is based in North Walsham.

North Walsham is home to one of the vehicles, which enable firefighters to quickly attend isolated locations and deal with extreme weather conditions.

Cllr Margaret Dewsbury, the council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: “These smaller vehicles are particularly useful in getting emergency workers on scene quickly to fires in isolated locations, such as forests and clifftops, and to incidents of fooding and deep snow or ice.”

The cost of the four new TRVs is £175,000 and they will be based at Reepham, Acle and Downham Market, along with North Walsham. TRVs are already based at a number of other stations.

The council has also allocated £7 million towards the purchase of 22 new fire appliances for Norfolk.
